GFWC-Michigan

The General Federation of Women’s Clubs – Michigan (GFWC MI) has a proud history of community service since it was organized in 1895. GFWC MI is a state affiliate of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC) the oldest nondenominational, nonpartisan, international volunteer service organization of women, and it is well into its second century of volunteer service in communities throughout the United States and the world. GFWC MI comprises 43 active clubs with approximately 1,348 members across the state.

Members of GFWC/GFWC Michigan are women of all ages who want to expand their horizons by meeting new friends, gaining knowledge about their communities and the world around them, learning new skills, and bringing new interests into their lives while accepting the challenge of improving their communities and themselves.

Our Purpose

The purpose of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs of Michigan is to unite the women’s clubs of Michigan which enhance lives as well as improve communities, by creating and diffusing an enlightened public opinion, while focusing on today’s community needs and concerns.

Unity in Diversity

Our motto emphasizes our ability to use the diversity of our backgrounds to work toward a unified vision and purpose of enhancing our lives and the lives of those around us. Our members hold a wealth of resources in terms of interest, knowledge, and experience.

Our programs provide a wide range of issues: Our impact is local, and our reach is global. Our average annual contributions are $47 million donated; 5.5 million hours volunteered and over 136,000 projects completed.

GFWC sets the tone for the flexibility that has enabled us to grow and adapt to the changing lifestyles and concerns of women through more than a century of volunteer work.

Who We Are

The 43 clubs of GFWC Michigan have approximately 1,348 dedicated clubwomen working with our national organization the General Federation of Women’s Clubs striving to improve our communities locally and globally. Our efforts continue to make a difference as we work within our clubs as truly dedicated volunteers

GFWC is proudly represented in thousands of communities around the world by over 104,000 dedicated volunteers working to better the lives of their neighbors, make towns safer and more beautiful, and extend the hand of support and friendship to individuals near and far.

We are mothers and daughters, business and community leaders, and women of diverse interests, talents, and backgrounds—all united by a dedication to community improvement.

What We Do

GFWC members understand that there is no single issue and no single solution. GFWC is distinguished from other nonprofit organizations in that clubs have the freedom to shape programs and projects that suit local communities and interests, while benefiting from the expertise and support at district, state, regional, and national levels.

Whether aiming for the passage of a Congressional bill to prevent violence against women or mentoring at-risk girls at a local elementary school, we are proactive, determined, visionary volunteers with a national voice and a local passion.
